Research too much homework

Aug 12, 2015 Students in the early elementary school years are getting significantly more homework than is recommended by education leaders, according to a new study. Too much homework may diminish its effectiveness. While research on the optimum amount of time students should spend on homework is limited, there are indications that for high school students, 1 to 2 hours per night is optimum. In 2013, research conducted at Stanford University found that students in highachieving communities who spend too much time on homework experience more stress, physical health problems, a lack of A Stanford researcher found that too much homework can negatively affect kids, especially their lives away from school, where family, friends and activities matter.

The researchers used survey How Much Homework Do Students Do? Survey data and anecdotal evidence show that some students spend hours nightly doing homework. Homework overload is the exception rather than the norm; however, according to research from the Brookings Institution and the Rand Corporation (see the Brown Center 2003 below).
